Freshman start new Digital Learning Environment

As freshman come in a new way of learning is also on the rise. Richland County School District One has issued the entire class of 2018 new laptops.

Since the laptops have been distributed, there have been some positive and negative affects not only on the freshman class but Keenan as a whole.

Keenan students bring in first place

On April 22, the awards ceremony for the Richland One Visual Literacy Festival Book Production Contest was held in the Columbia Children’s Center, which is located in Richland Mall.

The Visual Literacy Festival is generally a collection of individual contests designed to acknowledge the work done by the students and faculty members of Richland One.

Keenan celebrates National Engineering Week

Across the country, National Engineering Week (NEW) is celebrated in numerous ways in order to show appreciation for engineering, which has affected today’s society in numerous ways.

“Engineering is needed in our society because nowadays everything is revolving around technology,” Junior Tarnisha Thomas said.

Keenan students compete in REAL competitions

Raider Engineering and Academic Leadership (REAL) Competitions have been a part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program for a while. The competitions are held by the University of South Carolina or Benedict College colleges of math and science. Electric Vehicle Awareness Event allows citizens to see new cars up close

On March 12, the Raiders traveled to the South Carolina State House for the Electric Vehicle Awareness Event. The event was held by the South Carolina Energy Office in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Commerce.

Three Raiders win blue ribbon at District Science Fair

On February 26 at EdVenture Children’s Museum, Keenan’s Biotechnical Engineering class, Juniors Ke’Aundra Jones, Tamia Morris and Samanuel Martin, won the Richland County School District One Science Fair, the first hosted in twenty years. Their teacher, Mrs. Kirstin Bullington, submitted the poster board and photo copy of the engineering notebooks on February 25 to Fair. Keenan hosts FLL competition

On Saturday, December 8, 2012, Keenan’s Robotics team, the Robo-Raiders, hosted the Columbia, SC, Regional FIRST Lego League (FLL) completion; this competition was the qualifying event for advancement to state and national competitions.

Electronics policy leaves Keenan behind the times

At Keenan, the electronics policy is very limiting in regards to the student body’s interests. There are some in favor of the policy, who would mostly be teachers, and there are some against it, who most likely are the students.
