Keenan gives hope for the holidays

Keenan’s JROTC classes teamed up to donate food and clothes for the Harvest Hope Food Bank starting on November 28, 2016.

This production was not only for JROTC classes to contribute to but the whole school as well.

JROTC cadets participate in KHS drill meets

Keenan JROTC cadets compete in all types of drill meets. Drill meets are the competitions in which cadets from all over compete against one another. The activities they compete in are where one cadet calls a series of commands while the team executes them. One specific drill meet Keenan cadets competed in was the District Drill Competition. Master Sargent Boyd leaves Keenan for retirement

Master Sargent Brenda Boyd, JROTC instructor, retired from Keenan after 22 years. Boyd started the JROTC program at Keenan in 1993.

“She was a good co-worker who went beyond the call of duty to make sure the cadets were taken care of,” Major Walter Savage, JROTC instructor, said.

Keenan gives back

The purpose of JROTC collecting canned goods is to feed the hungry and to give back to the community during the holidays. JROTC continued to collect non-perishable items until January 16.

“This is not just benefiting JROTC; it’s benefiting Keenan as a whole. It shows that we care, and we’re not just thinking about ourselves,” MSG Roberts, JROTC commander, said. Continue reading “Keenan gives back”

Keenan JROTC stands tall

The mighty Keenan Army JROTC Raider Battalion kicked off the new school year proudly wearing the new Army Service Uniform (ASU).  Cadets appear to stand just a little taller in that uniform versus the old green one.

They have a very busy year planned.

JROTC cadets collect school, national awards in ceremony

In March Richland One’s Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (JROTC) hosted its National Award Ceremony at the C.A. Johnson High School Auditorium. All JROTC units in the district were in attendance.

Battalion marches proudly for veterans

Veterans Day was originally celebrated to honor Americans who served in World War I. This holiday is celebrated on November 11, the anniversary of the day World War I ended in 1918.

Veterans Day is known to honor all Veterans for fighting and sacrificing their lives for our country.

Raiders march for the last time

Keenan’s JROTC program had their last parade for the school year on Friday May 4. The parade occurred at the Midlands Center around the corner from Keenan. There were all kinds of differently decorated cars out there. The music was loud and exciting; it motivated the cadets even more.

Cadets march towards achievement

On March 22, JROTC held its National Awards Ceremony at Dreher High School. The awards ceremony recognized those leaders who are honorable, respectful and trustworthy. The Army Instructors from each high school nominated their students to win special awards.
