Keenan’s JROTC becomes the best in the district

The Superintendent’s Award graces the JROTC trophy case.

Just recently Keenan’s JROTC won the Superintendent’s Award. Cadets worked hard and prepared a long time to get this award.

The last time JROTC received this award was in 2000, so it took cadets 19 years to claim this award once again.

Students made the most of spring break

Senior students throughout the school all took different approaches for what was their last high school spring break, which was from April 15 – 19.

Spring break is a time for students to take a break from all the stress of school and just have fun. Often, students go to the beach with friends and family.

Keenan Raiders end their drought with victory over Ridgeland-Hardeeville

The Keenan Boys Basketball team is led by Coach Zachary Norris. The team finished number one in the region with the record of 30-1; the Raiders ranked number three in the state of South Carolina and number 183 in the nation. The main focus was playing together as a team and defense; they think it is the key to winning the championship.

Magnet Program takes trip to Alabama

The engineering magnet program took a trip on March 13 to Huntsville, Alabama, to visit the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

Mr. Kareem Beckett, Head of the Magnet Program, is the person who organized the trip.

“The purpose of this trip was for the students to learn leadership skills and apply those skills in class,” Beckett said.

Marching Keenan Raider “Rubber” Band to Host Battle of the Bands

The Marching Keenan Raider “Rubber” Band is planning to host a battle of the bands to raise money for its growing band program. The event will take place on May 4 at the Stadium.

Mr. Garrick Rivers, Director of Bands, came up with the idea for this event at the end of the 2018 school year.

Senior projects impact students

Senior students started presenting their Senior Projects at Keenan on April 30.

The class of 2018 seniors worked absolutely hard. They worked nonstop.

“The students did very well on their projects,” Mrs. Anita Stroman, English teacher, said.  “Many students’ projects were innovative as they stepped outside the box and mastered their topics or career…interest[s].” Continue reading “Senior projects impact students”

Keenan practices school safety drills

Keenan practiced a series of school safety drills on various days. Administration held these drills for emergency reasons, so students know what to do in case something occurs.

The first drill was on March 26, the school shooter drill. On March 27 was the bus evacuation drill. The last drill was the fire drill, which was held on March 28.

KEENAN FINE ARTS TO PERFORM IN ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL

Keenan is having its Orchestra Festival May 4 at 5:00 P.M. in the auditorium. This event will cost $5 each entry.  The point of this concert is to prepare for formations from solos up to groups of eight, and it’s to be graded on players’ playing levels. Everyone will play on his or her level, beginner or pro.
