Preserving the Planet with the “Planeteers”

Did you know that we have a recycling club? Well, if you didn’t know, now you do. As a part of a district-wide recycling project, Keenan has created an environmentalist club

Keenan Student Council gives back during holidays with #StealASmile

From December 14 to December 18, 2015, the Keenan Student Council, in conjunction with the Students in Action (SIA) team and Service Learning class, all under the advisement of Mrs. Deidra Pompey, Student Activities Director, held a week of service entitled #StealASmile.

Teachers Receive STEAM Grant

The Colonial Life Strong Schools grant is awarded to teachers in Richland Country School District One. Colonial Life has awarded over $75,000 since the start in the 2013-2014 school year. The grant provides teachers with the opportunity to receive financial support to enhance the learning experience in the classroom.

Keenan publication staff promotes core values

The Keenan publication staff has been working on promoting the school’s core values in their newspaper for the 2015-2016school year. The mission statement of Keenan is used to inspire students through the use of a rigorous curriculum, cutting-edge technology, strong partnerships, a diverse community, and turning its students into first-class students that contribute to present and future occurrences. Ms. Lasenta Lewis-Ellis, graduate of Keenan class of ’89, revisited the Raider Cove as Principal for the Day on December 7.

Her duties included classroom observations, hallway monitoring and more.

Contestants take stage for their try at crown

The Keenan Scholarship Pageant was held on January 10. The pageant was hosted by Mrs. Stephanie Jenkins, Junior class sponsor and dance teacher, and set up by Mrs. Archias Forbes, Chorus teacher, and many workers and students. The qualifications to participate in the pageant were a 2.0 GPA, $200 in funds raised and no infractions. The theme of this year’s pageant was the Wizard of Oz.

Student Council students get chance to volunteer at local zoo

For years Student Council students have volunteered in their free time at Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens. In the month of October they hosted a special event called Boo at the Zoo, for children ages 12 and under to celebrate Halloween.

Olive Garden sponsors Pasta for Pennies

Pasta for Pennies is a program where funds are raised to research patient aid in order to kill blood-born cancer.

Pasta for Pennies is sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“We raised…$574.34 in total,” Mrs. Deidra Pompey, English teacher, said.
