Contestants take stage for their try at crown

The Keenan Scholarship Pageant was held on January 10. The pageant was hosted by Mrs. Stephanie Jenkins, Junior class sponsor and dance teacher, and set up by Mrs. Archias Forbes, Chorus teacher, and many workers and students. The qualifications to participate in the pageant were a 2.0 GPA, $200 in funds raised and no infractions. The theme of this year’s pageant was the Wizard of Oz.

Master Sargent Boyd leaves Keenan for retirement

Master Sargent Brenda Boyd, JROTC instructor, retired from Keenan after 22 years. Boyd started the JROTC program at Keenan in 1993.

“She was a good co-worker who went beyond the call of duty to make sure the cadets were taken care of,” Major Walter Savage, JROTC instructor, said.

Assistant principal receives Doctorate

One of Keenan’s assistant principals recently received a doctorate.

“I feel great about obtaining my degree,” Dr. Veronica Scott, assistant principal for curriculum and instruction, said.  “It was a personal goal that I set earlier on in life, and it felt great to be able to complete something so profound.”

Raiders make history

The 2014 football season for the Raiders was definitely one for the books. The team finished off the regular season 7-3, pushing Keenan into the playoffs.

The team surpassed all rounds of the playoffs, which lead them to the championship for the first time in history. Keenan was the first team from Richland One to advance to the championship since 1991. Continue reading “Raiders make history”

ACCREDITATION VISITORS COME TO KEENAN

Accreditation visitors came to evaluate Keenan on November 11.

The team of visitors came to Keenan to evaluate what faculty, staff and students are doing and what they’re supposed to do concerning the mission statement and requirements of school.

Raider Rubber Band marches forward

The Keenan Marching Raider Rubber Band went to Atlanta, Georgia, on November 7 to compete in the National Band Competition.

The band has worked many weeks throughout the summer and first quarter of the school year in order to prepare a routine show for the competition.

Students to compete for crown in Scholarship Pageant

Mrs. Stephanie Jenkins, dance teacher, is setting up this year’s Keenan Scholarship Pageant.

Keenan recognized at Delta Sigma Theta May Week Banquet

The annual Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Richland County Alumnae Chapter May Week Celebration was held May 7 at Brookland Baptist Church Banquet and Conference Center. Guests enjoyed a full-course meal while embarking upon the festivities.

Child Development II students win Visual Literacy Festival Contest

Mrs. Billie Southard’s Child Development II students recently competed in the Visual Literacy Festival (VLF) Contest.

“We won first place,” Southard, Business Education Teacher, said.
