Seniors plan for graduation

High school is all about preparing for the “real world.” May 24, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. Keenan students will walk across the stage at Colonial Life Arena.  Students will receive diplomas and rewards from their work over the course of four years, from Grade 9 to Grade 12.

“It’s lit,” Senior Sanchez Lorick said. “I’m ready to take on the next chapter of my life.”

Keenan awards students with celebration

Keenan held a cookout celebration for students who made third quarter honor roll, 11th graders who participated in the WorkKeys and ACT testing, and students who were Caught Being Blue. The celebration was held during fourth block on April 7.

Mrs. Latayna Williams, Assistant Principal, along with Mrs. Deidra Pompey, English Teacher, and Mrs. Saran Hasinger, Guidance Counselor, had a hand in preparations for the celebration. Continue reading “Keenan awards students with celebration”

Keenan exhibits talent at District Honors Orchestra program

Showcasing their skills, Keenan’s orchestra members attended the District Honors Orchestra event at 6:00 P.M. on February 17 at Lower Richland High school. The day before, various students participated in the practice conducted from 9:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

The top orchestra students from both middle and high school attended the concert.

Seniors gain superlatives

Senior Superlatives are memories that best describe graduating seniors. These superlatives recognize characteristics in students who are moving on and leaving high school, and the photos go in the yearbook.

On Sunday January 22 Keenan held a scholarship pageant. The judges crowned a Miss Sophomore, Miss Junior, Mr. Keenan and Miss Keenan.

Keenan Student Council concludes 2016 Pasta for Pennies campaign

The 2016 Pasta for Pennies Fundraiser has come to a close. Pasta for Pennies is an annual fundraising campaign hosted by the Keenan Student Council to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The fundraiser lasted for exactly a month. Every teacher with a 2nd block B Day class was given a box to collect donations. The class with the most money raised would win a catered lunch from Olive Garden. Contestants take stage for their try at crown

The Keenan Scholarship Pageant was held on January 10. The pageant was hosted by Mrs. Stephanie Jenkins, Junior class sponsor and dance teacher, and set up by Mrs. Archias Forbes, Chorus teacher, and many workers and students. The qualifications to participate in the pageant were a 2.0 GPA, $200 in funds raised and no infractions. The theme of this year’s pageant was the Wizard of Oz.

Master Sargent Boyd leaves Keenan for retirement

Master Sargent Brenda Boyd, JROTC instructor, retired from Keenan after 22 years. Boyd started the JROTC program at Keenan in 1993.

“She was a good co-worker who went beyond the call of duty to make sure the cadets were taken care of,” Major Walter Savage, JROTC instructor, said.

Assistant principal receives Doctorate

One of Keenan’s assistant principals recently received a doctorate.

“I feel great about obtaining my degree,” Dr. Veronica Scott, assistant principal for curriculum and instruction, said.  “It was a personal goal that I set earlier on in life, and it felt great to be able to complete something so profound.”
