Keenan’s Marching Raider Rubber Band hosted its first annual Battle of the Bands on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Memorial Stadium.

The Battle of the Bands is a good opportunity for young folks who are on the band

“We travel throughout the Southeast to compete and perform,” Mr. Garrick Rivers, band director, said. “It was time for us to host our own competition.”

Eleven bands performed from the State of South Carolina, the following high school bands: Crestwood, Darlington, Dillon, Eau Claire, Lake City, Lamar, Lower Richland, McCormick and Woodland, and there was a guest performance by The Marching 101 of South Carolina State University.

“Attending the battle, I could see the business side rather than performing,” Senior Kayla Vaughan, captain, said.

This was a good experience for bands through performance, entertainment and execution.

“My mindset was telling me that we could take home the trophy, but with last minute change and people not being there I really wasn’t expecting to win [1st place] at that,” Junior Deja Smith, Eau Claire trumpet section leader and band captain, said.
