The Delta GEMS group of Keenan participated in the Families Helping Families community service project on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. This took place at the Families Helping Families warehouse in West Columbia.

Families Helping Families is a non-profit organization that helps families during Christmas time. The organization works by a family adopting a less fortunate family and providing them with gifts. They take it to the warehouse. At the warehouse the gift is packed, wrapped and put in a designated spot until the family comes to get it.

“I enjoyed helping families during the Christmas season who are less fortunate,” Sophomore Hazel Daniels said.

When the GEMS members arrived at the warehouse, they were split into groups to do different activities. Some activities included wrapping gifts, taking gifts to designated spots, finding clothes and toys for families and helping families put their gifts in their cars.

“I helped people carry their presents to their cars and [carry] presents in the warehouse,” Junior DeShawna Black said.

The service project had a positive impact on the Delta GEMS members’ lives while they were participating in it.

“I felt excited because I knew I was doing a good deed,” Sophomore Camryn Laurie said.
