Mrs. Catina Garner, Math teacher, and Mrs. Carla Gourdine, English teacher, discussed their jobs and how they feel about the Secretary of Education.

Kids probably wander in their minds every day why a teacher does his or her job, or how they feel about what their teaching salary.

“Too much work and not enough pay,” Garner said.

Students come to school in order to get their education. That is the most important thing to be successful.

“Children are less willing to do things that makes them successful; the key is to empower students to do what they have to do so that they care about their futures,” Gourdine said.

The Secretary of Education advises the President on federal policies, programs and activities related to education. He or she deals with influence over education policy.

Mrs. Betsy DeVos is the Secretary of Education. Today, her political efforts are focused on advancing educational choices.

“Betsy DeVos is a proven leader, an innovator and an advocate,” Garner said.

According to Kristina Rizga in a Mother Jones magazine article, DeVos wants to use America’s schools to build “Gods Kingdom.” Trump’s Education Secretary pick has spent a lifetime working to end public education as Americans know it.

“I’m more concerned about what public schools would be like under her administration and what parents and kids would wonder,” Mr. Ron Webb, assistant principal, said.

Secretary of Education has a plan to get rid of common core standards. Are we going to let her do this?
