Keenan Raiders Basketball have been preparing in and out of the gym in the off season for the upcoming 2016-2017 season.
“Looking forward into the season to win games and to play together as a team,” Freshman Courtney Jones, varsity player, said.
Her role in the off season is to work together and help her team in the upcoming season.
Other players have different roles in the off season.
“My role in the off season is to develop an identity,” Freshman Dillon Jones, varsity player, said.
Coaches must motivate players and get them to buy into their roles on the team.
“Let them know that you believe in them,” Coach Reggie McLain, head varsity coach, said.
McLain is very excited for this upcoming season. He has been coaching at Keenan for ten years. His best memory in coaching at Keenan is all of his upper-state and state championships.
Players are looking forward to a state championship this year.
“We put too much work in to not go back,” Junior Ervin Stone, varsity player, said.
His role in the off season is to get better at his weaknesses and work to be a leader.
Even coaches have to work on weaknesses.
“I have no weaknesses, with five state championships out of six and one as a player. I feel I know the game of basketball,” Coach James Johnson, varsity assistant coach, said.
The preseason leads off to a great start for the Raiders this year.
