For years Student Council students have volunteered in their free time at Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens. In the month of October they hosted a special event called Boo at the Zoo, for children ages 12 and under to celebrate Halloween.
“We have been volunteering with Boo at the Zoo for 6 years so far,” Mrs. Deidre Pompey, Student Council Advisor, said.
Students were able to volunteer from the dates of October 14-30. Those who participated volunteered for four hours 5-9 P.M. They passed out coloring books, coloring cards and candy.
“It was a great volunteer experience for Student Council to give back to the community, especially kids,” Senior Lyric Swinton, Student Body Corresponding Secretary, said.
Every Student Council student was asked to dedicate their time. They could volunteer on one date or as many as they were available for. All students had different experiences because the event went on rain or shine.
“It was fun because I met and interacted with people from different schools,” Sophomore Kyland Oxner, Sophomore Class President, said
Student Council will continue to volunteer at Boo at the Zoo and several other community service activities for the years to come.
