Pasta for Pennies is a program where funds are raised to research patient aid in order to kill blood-born cancer.
Pasta for Pennies is sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“We raised…$574.34 in total,” Mrs. Deidra Pompey, English teacher, said.
The result of Pasta for Pennies has had a big increase in survival rates.
“In 1964, the survival rate for adults with blood cancers was three percent and is 88 percent…today,” Pompey said.
What is the reason for Pasta for Pennies?
“To raise awareness for blood-born cancer,” Ms. Tawanna Thomas, special education teacher, said.
Pasta for Pennies is a nationwide charitable organization participated in by many high schools.
“Yes, it is in most schools,” Freshmen Shaunt’e Davis said.
Olive Garden sponsors a reward for Pasta for Pennies.
“The classes who have the most money get a free pasta party from Olive Garden,” Davis said.
