During this school year Keenan has hired a number of new teachers. Mrs. Helena Wilson, Anatomy and Biology Teacher, is new to the Science Department.

Wilson is from Florence, and she is a graduate of Walden University, where she received a Master’s degree in Education, specializing in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. She also graduated from Winthrop University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

Before becoming a teacher, Wilson worked with the Department of Health and Environmental Control in the laboratory as well as with the Environmental Quality Control Division as an Environmental Enforcement Manager for five years.  The knowledge from these various experiences she uses in the classroom.

“This was an incredible opportunity for me, and I try to incorporate real-life situations in my classroom,” Wilson said.

She has been a teacher for nine years. She has recently taught at Columbia High School before joining the Keenan faculty. Her current students describe her as a nice teacher whom they are glad to have this school year.

“Honestly, I do like Mrs. Wilson; she is fair and easy, and her test percentage makes her class easy,” Senior Sarah Cantey-James said.

Mr. Kareem Beckett, Science Teacher, who is Wilson’s department chair, has also said she is a wonderful teacher, and the science department values her deeply.

“Mrs. Wilson is very creative, students love attending her class and [she is] great addition to our staff,” said Beckett.

Wilson said she is very excited, and it is a blessing to work with the Keenan community.
