On Friday, October 12, 2012, Mr. Willie E. Lyles, Keenan’s former Band Director, hosted the first pep rally of the year. There were performances from the cheerleaders, band members and dance class.

To prepare for the pep rally, a great deal of work was performed.

“We brainstormed songs that we thought the crowd would like and then we practiced playing them,” Junior Tarnisha Thomas, Band member and Student Council member, said.

Thomas also said the Student Council prepared by making grade-level posters and gathering ideas to make the pep rally entertaining.

Some students didn’t enjoy the pep rally. They gave ideas that they think could have improved it, including dancing, more band selections, music and most importantly time.

“It was very unorganized, and everything was last-minute. There wasn’t enough class support and spirit,” Junior Desia Truesdale said.

Other students enjoyed the pep rally.

“It was better than last year,” Senior Kendra Robinson said.
