Members of Keenan Robotics Team 1398 have started the kickoff of their competition season as of January 7, 2012. They have begun working on designs for their robot and coming up with different strategies on how to win the game.
In FIRST Robotics they have exactly six weeks to build their robots. During the kickoff they are told the object of the game they will be playing.
“This competition is very important to us, and we can’t wait to see the different kinds of robots that other teams have built,” Dr. Martin Cwiakala, Engineering Teacher, said.
This year the game will be Rebound Rumble. The robots will be using sponge basketballs to shoot and score points. They have three different levels of goals worth 1 point, 2 points and 3 points. This year they have added Microsoft connects which allows them to use a human robot.
“We are very excited about the upcoming events and many competitions coming up soon,” Mr. Kareem Beckett, Engineering Teacher, said.
The team has chosen officers for the year: Nathanial Abraham as President, Maya’ Goodwin as Vice President, X’Avier Douglas as Recorder, and Greg Lindsey and Joseph James as Parliamentarians.
“I have been a part of the robotics team for some years now, and each year the team and the competitions get better and better,” Senior Nathanial Abraham said.
Their first competition will be March 22-24, 2012, in North Charleston at the Palmetto Regional Competition. The team is very ecstatic about going to the competition and competing to win the game.
“This is my first year on the robotics team, and after everything I have heard, I can’t wait to go to the competitions and have fun,” Freshman Kendra Entzminger said.
