By Mrs. Carolyn Cleveland, Special to the Sword and Shield

Congratulations to [Freshman] Carmen Hare…of [the] Keenan Performance Choir, who passed auditions for the prestigious American Choral Directors (ACDA) Honor Choir of South Carolina. The American Choral Directors State Honors Choir held its Fall Conference and Honor Choir Weekend at Converse College [in] Spartanburg…on Friday and Saturday, October 7-8, 2011. There were 419 students who participated from 14 high schools and 23 middle…[and] high schools.

The purpose of ACDA Honor Choirs is to provide a positive, quality musical experience that transcends a singer’s traditional level of expertise and to expose singers, chaperones and ACDA members to exceptional clinicians and accompanists and superior choral literature. The audition process consisted of …sing[ing] unaccompanied major scale patterns and “America (My Country ‘Tis of Thee).”  Carmen did an outstanding job in her performance with the…Honor Choir. Please congratulate on her accomplishment.

Mrs. Cleveland is Keenan’s Director of Choral Activities.
