Success is something the students at Keenan High never cease to obtain. One of Keenan’s students has exceeded this standard and elevated to heights some could only dream of.  Junior Shantrell Mitchell was selected by the University of South Carolina Talent Search TRIO program to go to the 2nd Annual National Student Conference in Washington, D.C. She is proud of her efforts and ready for the big trip to D.C.

“I am excited because I get an opportunity to network with people from different states, and it is a new adventure for me,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell’s peers are excited for her as well and are proud that she pushes herself to put forth effort in all of her endeavors. Her classmates are encouraged by her accomplishment.

“Receiving recognition like this is huge. I believe it will encourage other students because it will show that students just like themselves, though from a small town with not very much to work with, can still accomplish the unthinkable and be given great opportunities,” Junior Khori Hall said.

Not only has Mitchell sparked a new drive in other students with her achievement, but she has made her parents and teachers proud as well.

“I am ecstatic. Even though she’s going miles away, I know that she will be on her best behavior and take full advantage of the opportunity. I am so proud of her,” Ms. Kim Mitchell, Shantrell Mitchell’s mother, said.

Shantrell Mitchell has excelled in her work as a student and will use this opportunity to continue to thrive.
